Got a date planned? Planning to enjoy the day single, fabulous and with friends? Either way, Valentine's day isn't just for couples so make the best of it and overdose on chocolates. You can spend the day treating yourself, your parents or even friends to something nice.
This Youtube user has unfortunatly disabled embedding so check out these 4 looks by clicking on the links for some really easy DIY nail tutorials for Valentine's day:

Cheap Valentines Day gift ideas for new couples

You've just begun dating and haven't yet said the I Love You's, let alone made it official. While looking for gifts you decide to give up since everywhere seems to be for people who are super serious about each other, or all the Hallmark cards are way too sappy.

Well... Here are some creative ideas (no, not your typical stuffed bear and roses) for Valentine's day which won't send your new sweety the wrong messege. The to picking the appropriate gift is figuring out what your new interest feels about V-day and not going overboard with what you buy and how much you spend.
Another good idea would be hinting at spending the day together.

1. Pretty sure poster by Nick Schmitz ($33):
This Valentine's day themed poster has a twisted typography that declares, “I’m Pretty Sure I Like You a Lot,” so you can declare your true feelings without making it seem like you're coming on too strong. The ‘Pretty Sure’ hand-pulled screenprint poster is by Nick Schmitz; each of the 50 limited-edition pieces is signed and numbered by the artist.

2. Romantically Hip Lights:
ALT Lucialternative has lined an ultra modern black lamp/lantern with a hot pink interior, made visible through witty and romantic cut-outs along its base. In keeping with their Italian heritage, the designers have infused this piece with romance. The text on the light reads: “And with this light you can do nothing else but kiss me. 3. Kiss band-aids ($9):The Boo Boo Kisses Adhesive Bandages come in cute tin and feature 15 vibrant, pouty lip stickers. Each $9 pack comes in an assortment of colors including crimson red, purple and neon pink. Plus you get a free toy!

4. Hand cut 'I love you more than.." card ($11.50):
These adorable cut paper cards from Etsy seller Storeyshop are perfect for telling your significant other that you love them in comparative terms (more than your PS3? What about cake?). You get to choose a personalized noun to create a card that’s even more special.
I'm thinking "I love you more than shoes". Since you're a new couple, keep it short and simple. Maybe tell them how much fun they are/how happy you are to get to spend V-day with them.

Doesn't this remind you of the "Fruit of the month" episode on Raymond? (Btw, I actually also stumbled across their website ha).
6. Proximity based geek lovin' Tees ($12-25):
Light up your love this Valentines. If you are separated by a few feet, 2 1/2 hearts will light up. But when you get within hugging distance, the pixelated hearts on the 8-Bit Dynamic Life Shirt will power up to a full charge. Check out the link for more info about this innovative gift idea.

7. Strip Chocolate board game ($30):
Whether you love kissing your partner or just taste of the chocolate, you'll win either way. Draw a Strip card and remove a piece of clothing. Draw a Chocolate card and paint a design on your partner. Comes with chocolate body frosting, dice, paintbrushes.
8. Bake your Valentine some brownies (you can buy a mix if you don't know how to bake) or cupcakes with Red and white icing.
Add a cute card and you're set. A nice candle lit dinner at home with wine is lovely too.

9. A necklace or other item of jewelry/accesory is something any girl will gladly receive.

10. Buy a picture frame and decorate it with hearts or other valentines day related things you find at a crafts store. Put your favorite/first picture in it and voila.
11. Woo your date.
If you live by the beach/near the park, plan a picnic or even movie night and surprise your date. It's relatively cheap and the look on their face will be pretty priceless. Who doesn't like being made to feel special right? Bring flowers even if you're a girl doing the planning for your guy.
12. Perfumes or colognes are always easy gift ideas to give someone. Just have someone at the perfume counter help you choose a new fragrance.
13. Want to deliver something to your guy but don't want it to be a bouquet of flowers (which his work buddies may not let him live down?). Buy a stuffed animal and other goodies, have your local gift shop put it all in a huge balloon and get it delivered.
14. Surprise him with a night of seduction with some sexy lingerie and wine + chocolate covered strawberries. Shop around online for huge savings.

What are your Valentine's day plans and what are you getting your Valentine?

Style: How To Budget And Save Money

So called recession-istas everywhere are doing their best to make their dollars go further. That doesn't mean you need to give up on fashion and buying stuff you really want.
Here are some ways to make your budget go a long way, without having to give up a roof over your head.

1. Wait for items to go on sale.
Sites like Asos and Victoria's Secret have annual sales with ginormous mark downs. Well worth holding out for. I remember seeing a pair of zipper boots marked down from $70 to $17! Plus the Colin Stuart Studded Booties every single blogger was seen wearing, are being sold half price too (Used to be $98, not available anymore).
As for underwear: I usually buy from VS when they have sales going on. You get quality for such a low price. 2. Shop at thrift stores.

3. Create new outfit combinations with clothes you already have in your wardrobe.
Sites like polyvore.com are great for getting more ideas on how to piece together new combinations you may have never thought of. Changing small details like your accesories/shoes can change the look of the outfit too (think heels vs. flat and sandals and what you can pair tops with).

4. Borrow and lend things from friends (and vice versa.)
Just make sure you're all ok with the arrangement first!

5. Search for discount codes and printable store discount coupons always available online.

6. Shop at off-price sites:
bluefly and eBay are great sites for bargains on those high quality designer pieces you really want.

7. Have a clothes swap with friends.

8. Buy one statement piece and wear it all season.
This is one of my favourite way to save money, since it allows me to get that one piece of clothing or shoes I want really badly. There’s nothing like a dramatic new jacket, coat, skirt, scarf, pair of boots, shoes, earrings, brooch or necklace to make you feel - and look - your best.

9. Another golden rule of mine I try and share with others is: know where to skimp on costs and where to splurge. I'll usually buy trendy items from places like Forever 21 and Wetseal. If I'm not sure leather leggings will be in fashion for years to come or how often I'll even wear them, I'd rather not spend as much on them.

And other times (like work-wear) it's best to spend the money and get proper fitting, durable items.
Same goes for heels and other footwear: if it's a trendy pair of shoes you'll only wear ocassionally when you go out, you're better off checking out sites like gojane.com and bakers.com.
A comfy pair of flats I'll need to wear to work everyday I'll glady spend on. No amount of money saving is worth the pain and possible foot issues you get from a poorly made pair.

10. Sell unused clothes on ebay and buy new clothes with the earnings.

11. Learn how to sew.
You can easily alter and re-design otherwise unusable clothes with really basic sewing skills. Alter a bootcut pair of jeans and made them skinny ones (I did the same some weeks back and the results where perfect!).

12. Don't forget your hair and make up which also make a simple outfit look fabulous on it's own.

13. Head to the outlet malls.

14. Budget and spend sensibly
Set aside a certain amount (let's say $100) you'd be willing to spend on fashion every month (or every few months) and stick to it. It really depends on how often you have the urge to splurge.
It will help keep shopping at bay and you won't end up impulse shopping only to later realise how many black shoes you just bought. Sometimes I'll even make a list of things I want to gradually add to my wardrobe or "badly needing- list".

Another super important thing to do is rationalize with yourself. Sure those sequined leggings are hot on Victoria Beckham, but will you have somewhere to wear them to before they go out of fashion?

15. Stock up on accesories.
If you happen to come across a store which sells cheap yet elegant accesories (for me it was Primark in London where I got tons of  bangles and bracelets for $1/$2 each) it's a good idea to buy, buy buy! As I mentioned before, accesories can change up an outfit, but also add some flare. So it's always good to have extra lying around.

Easy hair style: build volume while you sleep

This is more for those of you with straight/wavy hair who want to add a kick of volume. I'm usually too busy  when I first wake up and have to rush to work/class. So I decided to take a tip from Heidi Klum's stylist and get a red-carpet worthy look... while I sleep!
All you do is spray your hair with volumizing spray before you get some shut eye. Create some braids at your nape, crown and bangs. Flipping hair over adds more volume. Then fasten the braids in a bun at the top of your head.

Come morning: voila! Just shake down your braids and you're set to go. They're also pretty comfy to sleep in.

Get A Natural Face Lift

Need an instant face lift the non-surgical way?

You COULD spend a wad of cash at the beauty counter by purchasing firming creams to tighten your face up. But try this instead.

Step 1:
Crack one egg, remove the yolk and beat the egg white until frothy.

Step 2:
Apply the egg white froth generously to your face and neck and it allow to set for at least twenty minutes. Don't eat or move your face though.

Step 3:
After a few moments, you’ll immediately start to feel the ‘tightening’ effects. Lightly rinse with tepid water when finished.

Easy, Messy Hair Updo/Hairstyle

I love this idea. Great for days when you're having a bad hair day, or just want to try out a new look for an ocassion.

Nail polish trends 2009: Metallics

What I love about nail polish is that you can keep your look up to date for a fraction of the cost, without giving yourself a make over. It's subtle, while still being a noticeable detail. Purples, red, burgundies where all covetted winter colors, but now it's time to break out the metallics.

Since being seen on fall runways, Silver nail polish has become a hot trend being worn by celebs (Rihanna, Lindsey Lohan, Paris Hilton, Kate Winslet) and the good news is metallics go with everything.

If you're not into silver there's other choices like gold, graphite, chrome and bronze.

Rihanna loves her bronze and was seen sporting it since June '08:

Day time make up looks

If you're anything like me, the vibrant green, blue and/or yellow eyeshadow tutorials aren't appropriate for day time make up. It looks great on some, but on me it just looks overdone.

Happy to say I think I've found another ways to my do make up thanks to youtubers, with just a bit of make up.

For this first look *cute 60's pin up girl inspired make up* you'll need these for the eyes:
-black liner pencil.
-creamy skin tone shadow/cream.
-dark blue/metallic liner (don't worry, nothing too shocking).
-brush for smudging.

And this one *subtle smokey eye* (i think this is officially the easiest smokey eye tut ever!):
-brown metallic eye shadow.
-black eyeliner.
-pencil brush.

Eyebrow fixes

Overtweezed?

Yes people. Even though I've posted numorous eyebrow tutorials, the whole concept of filling in brows with eyeshadow is a new to me, but I definitly plan to do it more often. Specially since the make up artist in this clip makes it look so simple and you hardly need many make up tools. All you need is some eyeshadow in the desired shade to fill in your brows instead of spending $18 on a compact.

Hope it helps!:)

Trend: Zebra Prints

My favorite picks with zebra prints:
Eleh on Chictopia.com I'm now convinced zebra print leggings can look very cool.
Zebra Love Top (Forever 21) $14.80

Just Cavalli Zebra Heart Ring $90.00
Metallic Zebra Pumps $24.80

Lucite Zebra Bangle $5.80
Kelly Osbourne
Not all women feel comfertable wearing animal prints. The key to wearing these bold patterns successfully is to keep the rest of the outfit sedate. Select a single piece of animal printand make it the focus of you're outfit.
