Heat-free way to get gorgeous curls and volume
Here's a tutorial for achieving lovely curls without heat. I stumbled onto it since I don't own a curling iron yet. Plus I try to avoid heat-styling my hair unless there's some special ocassion.
All you will need are:
-Slightly damp hair
-A bunch of bobby pins
-A little hairspray
-Blowdryer with "No Heat" setting (I think this is optional).

Essential Make Up Brushes
For make-up beginners like myself, Marlena from Makeupgeek.com broke down everything you need to know into one short video. Picking brushes when there are so many choices can be a frustrating task and even then, chances are you may still not be satisfied.
She also gives a few cheaper versions of brushes you can buy at Target and Sephora. Because let's be honest: sometimes spending $30 on a brush just doesn't seem right when there are cheaper alternatives which get the job done just as well.

Foolproof tips for perfect eyebrows
I have black eyebrows. So if you're like me, you know things can easily go from pretty to scary and hairy when brows are filled in too much. At the same time, not filling them in may cause them to look straggly and untidy. Brows are one of the most important factors that shape your face and complete make up looks.
If you can find a good threader definitely try it out. Most celebrities who are known for their flawless brows use this technique for brow shaping (e.g. Kim Kardashian, Aishwarya Rai)
.
So take my advice ladies:
1. What looks hot now may be your cup of tea a few years later.
It's best not to pluck eyebrows too thin, since it may not grow back in certain areas and you may be left with patches of hairless skin. More importantly, make sure not to pluck above the brow line- unless it's stray hairs which are not part of the natural shape.

Need more tips on shaping brows? Check out this detailed video:
2. Use a brow gel.
3. Filling in
Brush your eyebrows down. Now you're ready to fill in the empty areas. After that just brush brows back into place and use clear mascara/brow gel- which will blend out harsh lines- and you're done!
How do you feel about your brows? Or do you not really pay much attention to them and leave them natural?
2. Use a brow gel.
These can be really inexpensive (you can get some clear mascara for $3 at your local drugstores) or more expensive (Anastasia Brow Gel $21) and help keep brows in place. I haven't felt the need to buy the expensive ones and so far I have no complaints about the budget friendly versions. Lately I've even been trying out a smidgen of hair gel which works out better then any brow wax or gel I've bought so far. Just comb thru with a spooly.

I use my Elizabeth Arden eyebrow pencil, which comes with an eyebrow brush attached- I've had the same one for years.
Another alternative to pencils (which can look harsh if done with a heavy hand) are brow shadows and slanted eyebrows brushes to fill them in. Read more here.
4. Use a brow highlighter to highlight the brow bone. This will really make a difference.
5. Before applying make up, applying foundation around the brow area will help give brows a neater and more defined look by camouflaging stray hairs. (I usually skip this step.)

Oscars 2009: Who Will Win?
After a month of discussing whether Slumdog Millionaire will win Best Picture or if Kate Winslet will finally get her long-awaited golden statue, the moment has finally arrived.
As huge lovers of movies and all things Hollywood, we thought we'd share our picks for the top 6 categories. Our choices are based on industry buzz, personal preference, and gut feelings. We do not under any circumstances suggest you use our picks for any Oscar pool you might be doing...
Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire
Yes, we realize this is the safe choice. But with the amount of buzz this movie has generated, we feel it's an absolute no-brainer. Every now and then, the Academy votes for the feel-good movie of the year--and Slumdog looks like the next big winner.
Best Director: Danny Boyle, Slumdog Millionaire
Do you see a trend? We think they'll sweep these top two awards. Beg to differ?
Best Actor: Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler
We're not huge fans of Mr. Rourke but his performance was amazing and well respected across Hollywood. Many think Sean Penn may nab this one but we're going with our gut and picking Mickey. (Now if only he'd stop stalking Evan Rachel Wood...)
Best Actress: Kate Winslet, The Reader
Winslet's Oscar win is long overdue--we know it, she knows it, even the Academy knows it. Let's hope the universe works itself out and she wins a golden statue tonight. We heart Kate.
Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight
Because his performance was THAT GOOD. He commanded your attention while onscreen and delivered an almost-perfect performance. The academy will most definitely recognize this with a win.
Best Supporting Actress: Penelope Cruz, Vicki Cristina Barcelona
You couldn't take your eyes off her. She's an underrated actress who just might come into her own tonight.

Revlon 3D Extreme Mascara review
What it claims:
Get the extreme lash makeover with Revlon 3D Extreme™ Mascara! It creates dramatic lashes with extreme fullness, curl and length – 25X fuller, 70% curvier and 80% visibly longer lashes. The Exclusive Bold Impact™ Brush is tapered to lift, amplify and separate even the tiniest lashes. The patented lightweight gel formula with intense color pigments delivers a bold lash look in one step – no primer needed! No caking or flaking. Available in 3 shades. Also available in Waterproof.
What it did:
-Think the wand looks like it does on in the picture? Think again.
I was very dissapointed when I opened the package and saw how clumpy the mascara was. It's like they've made the opening way too large for the brush so too much product comes out. You have to really scrape it against the edge of the tube before attempting to use.
I checked for some reviews online and EVERYBODY seems to have a problem with how much product comes out on the wand.
-If I applied 2 coats it became flakey.
-I got it for $12. Much more then I'm used to paying for drug store mascara's.
-They lied about it making lashes "400%" longer.
-A bit hard to remove b/c the formula is very thick and clumpy.
Now ONE reason which kept me from tossing it:
I have long lashes, so to hear me complaining about mascara is VERY rare. This one made my lashes look very curvy and also fuller. It also lenghtened - though not 400% like it claims. I had to go over my lashes with a lash-wand and curler to make my lashes look a bit less like "tarantula lashes".
I don't know if I'd wear this on a night out since I'm afraid of the flaking.
In summary: if you're willing to go thru all the madness for the flirty, curvy lashes, while risking possible raccoon eyes/flaky mascara, it's ok.
I'd give this one 2 out of 5 stars.
Save your money and buy another mascara.
