There's enough reason to be worried about the future of humanity as it is. Now Niels Peeraer is taking those sinister scenarii a step further. The inspiration for his collection entitled 'Kizokusyakainodorei, Geishan N°58-65', is a fictional future world where humanity has forgotten what it's like to have fun. Slowly, all of the colors have faded, and food tastes of nothing. The few who still remember the good old days and their beautiful attractions for the senses are kept by the population as so-called 'geisha pets', condemned to a sad existence. The 21-year-old Belgian designer, who believes that he was a geisha himself in a former life, dresses up these fictional pet-creatures in oufits of draped feather-light fabrics or skin-tight body-stockings combined with fur coats, knee-high socks and yellow cloaks complete the tableau. But what sticks out most vividly is the jewelry. Thin chains are wrapped around the body and constructions out of metal and leather that are reminiscent of bondage are tied to the torso. In the light of the feminity of his cuts, combined with high-heeled shoes, which are invariably displayed by tender boys, you could almost believe that Niels Peeraer had got the sex of his models wrong. But no, it was all meant to be like this : "When I started to create the concept, I automatically thought of them as boys. But I didn't create it as menswear, I created it as a collection".
