Lacoste

Artist James Turrell's great swathes of saturated color were the inspiration for Lacoste's Christophe Lemaire this season. He joined the monochrome set with a concise sequence of outfits featuring a single top-to-toe shade, as in a butter-yellow suit with matching polo, or a closing sequence of suits and shirts in surprisingly springlike pastels : ivory, aqua, blue. And when the colors didn't match exactly, they were so complementary that the effect was the same -a gray suede blouson with jersey pants, for instance, or an oatmeal ensemble. Aside from the white opener (let's call it winter white), it was probably best to suspend any seasonal assessment, given that jersey was Lemaire's fabric of choice throughout. Sporty and easeful ? You couldn't help but wonder if a plain presentation would have been more à propos -though Michel Gaubert and Steven Brinke once again plucked a sterling soundtrack from the ether of distant Krautrock memory.
