Michael Bastian served as men's fashion director at Bergdorf Goodman before launching his own label in 2006. For this season's collection, he took Jack Kerouac’s "On the road" and the road movie “My own private Idaho” as inspiration to create a diverse cast of travelers. The cheerfully preppy wardrobe Bastian is known for ceded by varying degrees to a 90s grunge look more befitting a sexy drifter, though the designer steered clear of the stories’ dark themes of drug use and prostitution. Camouflage pieces, hunting garb and alpine accents added a strong outdoor flavor to the collection, which was extensively merchandised as always. Boots, khakis and camo pants were the dominating characteristics of this collection : something absolutely different from what Michael Bastian designed in the past. The sporty chic with a touch of classic, the poolboy-like looks has been carefully traded in for a more hardcore GI Joe action. But Bastian stays grounded and sticks to his aesthetics to make sure he doesn't overexaggerate on the message he's trying to send across to the horde.
