Victor Glemaud

In the penthouse of Milk Studios in the trendy MeatPacking District, NYC, Victor Glemaud presented his collection of men's knitwear alongside the womenswear collection of his best friend, Camilla Staerk. Glemaud made a drastic departure from last season's pop-colored knits, moving into a more muted palette of blacks and grays for this collection. Although the thirteen sweaters on display may have faded a bit, the Levi's 501 jeans were ever-present, as each jumper was paired with white, gray or black denim rolled up to reveal Dr. Martens in shades of red, white, gray and gleaming gold. The knits themselves were beautifully made, some with tiny, almost invisible moth holes where, according to Glemaud, "the imaginary insects started eating the sweaters". Highlights of the collection -which definitely has unisex appeal- included a color-blocked gray and black chunky knit turtleneck, the shiny gold buttons that set off a deep purple cardigan and cool black vest, and the perfect everyday gray and black striped pullover. Having been picked up by his first store in New York -hipster haunt Odin in the East Village- and launching an affordable menswear line at a time when smart purchases matter, 2009 is shaping up to be a great year for Glemaud.
