Since its founding in 1923, what was once Hugo Ferdinand Boss' tailoring workshop in a small town South of Stuttgart, Germany has become one of Europe's largest fashion conglomerates, made up of an array of color-coded brands : Boss Black, Boss Green, and Boss Orange, in addition to Hugo, the runway line. Hugo’s first Paris show for this season's collection underscored the label’s positioning as Hugo Boss’ most modern line. Designer Bruno Pieters found inspiration in German Expressionism, a movement largely associated with its architecture. Sharp-edged silhouettes, angular cutting and graphic, black-and-white patterns drove home the point. Jackets resembled formalwear with their dramatic cutaways. Voluminous sleeves added a playful edge to coats and were shown off to full effect with skinny pants. Knotless neckties also held intrigue. Love it or loathe it, it was all about plaid on monochrome. Ich bin total verliebt in diese Kollektion.
