Husband and wife duo Komakino launched their fourth collection during the London Fashion Week. The pair, consisting of South Korean-born Jin Kim and Italian Federico Capalbo, met in Florence and moved to London in 2005. Kim has worked for Topman design, Michiko Koshino London and McQ Alexander McQueen, while Capalbo is currently studying menswear design at Central St Martins. Fe & Jin, as their friends know them, have been working on the label since their move to the capital and although initially a streetwear label, they have evolved well into their signature style fusing military influences with tailoring. They have been off to a good start, having already collaborated with Levi's Korea and putting on a few special presentations to show their collections from the last few seasons in places such as London and Tokyo.
Their offering for the current season is based on fascist buildings and a sense of disillusion, aiming to present an apocalyptic vision. Interaction within a social atmosphere plays a big role in the design process. Komakino focused on reality, taking current cultural aspects, implementing them then giving them a twist. The collection saw a dark palette of deconstructed jackets and pants with unfinished details, elasticated bands covering tees and jeans, juxtaposed with tailored finishes on box-shaped coats and sheer hooded tops. The dark silhouettes are enhanced with good proportions, which sets Komakino apart from many of the other brands in the same aesthetics category.
